Blueberries

The blueberry is closely related to our native bilberry, but is larger and more productive. Blueberries are slow to crop, they will bear light yields at first but by the fifth year a bush will yield 2.25kg increasing to at least 4.5kg when mature.

Blueberries grow best in full sun to light shade with protection from strong winds. Blueberries need a very acid soil (pH 4-5.5) which retains moisture during the summer.

Blueberries are decorative, they will reach a height of 1.5-1.8m when mature and some cultivars have an excellent autumn leaf colour of reds or gold’s.

Blueberries are available in containers all year round.
