A vigorous, deciduous climber which is the earliest Clematis macropetala hybrid to bloom. Double, purple-mauve, nodding flowers adorned with slender sepals are borne in April and May which are followed by silver seed heads.

Grow in fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil in sun, with the roots and base of the plant in shade. It will reach a height of 10m and a spread of 4m.
