A vigorous, compact, upright, bushy, deciduous shrub which has thorny stems,  and ovate, glossy, dark green leaves. From late spring into autumn, large clusters of cup-shaped, semi-double, dark red flowers are borne.

Grow in moist but well-drained soil in full sun. It will reach a height of 75cm and spread of 60cm.
