Cedrus atlantica Glauca Group

Cedrus atlantica Glauca Group

Blue Atlas Cedar. An evergreen conifer with a broad, pyramidal habit when young, maturing into a more flat-topped, spreading shape with age. The needles are short, stiff, and densely packed, with a striking blue-silver colouration that gives the tree its distinctive appearance. Inconspicuous flowers (catkins) are borne in September to October. The male catkins are yellow and release pollen, while the female cones are upright, green when young, and ripen to brown over two years, eventually disintegrating to release seeds.

Grow in a sunny, open site in any well-drained soil, including chalk soils. It will reach a height of 12-18m over 20-50 years, with a spread of 6-10m.
