Frangula alnus

Alder Buckthorn, Glossy Buckthorn. A large, bushy deciduous shrub or small tree with a rounded habit. It has glossy, rounded to ovate dark green leaves that turn yellow or red in autumn. In late spring to early summer, it produces small, inconspicuous, whitish-green flowers in leaf axils, followed by red berries that ripen to black.

Grow in moist, well-drained soils in full sun to partial shade. It prefers slightly acidic to neutral pH and can tolerate wet conditions. It will reach a height of up to 6m and a spread of 3m.
