Prunus spinosa

Blackthorn. Sloe. A dense, bushy shrub which has thorns. White bowl-shaped flowers are borne before the dark green leaves in early and mid-spring. Edible spherical fruits are borne in autumn.

Grow in moderately fertile, moist, well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. It will form a hedge from 90cm-3m tall and once established will have an average annual growth of 30cm.
