Quercus petraea

Sessile Oak. A large, deciduous tree with a broad, spreading crown. It has ridged, grey bark and dark green, lobed leaves. In spring, it produces small, inconspicuous flowers, followed by acorns in autumn.

Grow in moist, fertile, well-drained soils, but it is adaptable to poorer, drier soils and does well in clay. It can reach a height of 20-40m and a spread of 8-25m.
