Sambucus nigra

Common Elder. An upright, bushy shrub which has stout shoots and pinnate leaves which have ovate, toothed mid-green leaflets. Musk scented white flowers in flattened panicles are borne in early summer which are followed by spherical, glossy black fruit.

Grow in moderately fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. It will reach a height and spread of 6m.
