Silene chalcedonica

Maltese Cross. Formally known as Lychnis chalcedonica. An erect, stiff perennial which has ovate, mid-green basal leaves, and hairy, unbranched stems bearing clasping ovate leaves with heart-shaped bases. From June to August, terminal, rounded, umbel-like cymes are borne of 10-30 star-shaped scarlet flowers, 1.5cm across, each petal has two deep notches.

Grow in fertile, moist soil in full sun or partial shade. It will reach a height of 1m and a spread of 50cm.
