Medlars

The medlar is a multiple branched, spreading tree which is grown as much for its ornamental appearance as for its fruit.

The fruits can be eaten raw once bletted and the flesh has turned brown and is soft and sweet, but they are more often used in preserves and jellies.

Grow in moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. It will reach an ultimate height of 6m and a spread of 8m.
