Asparagus

Asparagus has been cultivated since the ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans. Asparagus is low in calories, contains no cholesterol or fat, and is low in sodium. The asparagus season starts at the end of April and lasts for only eight weeks.

Asparagus is best grown in an open sunny site. It likes light, sandy soil, although it can be grown in any soil as long as its free draining.

Asparagus are available in containers all year round.
