Rhubarb

Rhubarb are originally from Siberia, they are extremely hardy and frost resistant. Rhubarb are easy to grow and will bear good crops for 20 years or more. From an established crown it is possible to expect a yield of 2.5kg a year. Do not eat the leaves, they are poisonous.

Rhubarb needs to be grown in a sunny position, in soil which is reasonably free draining and rich in organic matter.

Rhubarb are available in containers all year round.

    Originating from ‘Rhubarb Triangle’ in West Yorkshire, an outstanding early cropping variety which produces high quality deep red thick stalks, literally bursting with flavour, without the need for forcing. Although forcing will produce stalks of supreme quality and flavour. A reliable variety which will crop year after year from April to June. It will reach a height of 45cm and a spread of 1m.

    This superb Yorkshire bred variety has a growing reputation for being one of the best modern varieties of rhubarb available.  Heavy cropper of long thick stems, dark red in colour, and topped with distinctive arrow shaped leaves – hence the name!  It has an excellent flavour and is fully hardy with easy to pull stems.  Ideal for forcing, recommended for freezing. Its season is April to June.
