Berberis

A dense, upright, evergreen shrub with strongly spiny stems and clusters of stiff, narrow, spine-toothed leaves, which are copper-tinted when young. Bears clusters of yellow flowers in late spring.

Grows in almost any well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. It will form a hedge from 1.2-2m tall and once established will have an average annual growth of 30cm.
