A branched, erect and wiry biennial which produces a rosette of short-stalked, slender, spatulate leaves which are reddish near the base.  In the second year the flowering stalks are borne, the leaves on these are alternate, linear and unstalked, the margins have rounded teeth. From June to September loose clusters of starry blue-purple bells on very slender branching stems are borne.

    Grow in moist but well-drained, fertile, neutral to alkaline soil in sun or partial shade. It will reach height of 1m and spread of 50cm.
