Cosmos

An erect, then spreading, tuberous perennial with blue-green leaves. From June to September, cup-shaped, chocolate-scented cherry coloured flowerheads with chocolate centres are borne.

Grow in moderately fertile, moist, but well-drained soil in sun. Mulch in autumn or in very cold areas, lift tubers before the first frost and store in moist compost until spring. It will reach a height of 40cm and a spread of 30cm.
