Often called “Radicchio” in Britain. Widely grown in Italy and becoming increasingly popular over here, the red chicories are a group of hardy plants usually green in summer but turning an appetising range of bright colours with the onset of cold weather. Uniform with firm heads and well-filled red hearts and large leaves. Resistant to bolting. Spread: 8ins (20cm)
