Switch Grass. A narrowly upright, deciduous perennial which forms clumps of purple to glaucous, mid-green stems which bear upright, flat, linear, mid-green leaves to 60cm long. The leaves turn yellow in autumn and light brown in winter. In early autumn, broad, diffuse, weeping panicles to 50cm long of tiny, purple-green spikelets are borne.
Grow in moderately fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. It will reach a height of 1m and a spread of 75cm.

Pheasant’s Tail Grass. A loosely tufted, rhizomatous evergreen perennial with arching, flat or inrolled, leathery, dark green leaves to 30cm long, streaked orange-brown in summer, and turning orange-brown all over in winter. From June to September, pendant panicles to 75cm long of purplish green spikelets are borne.
Grow in moderately fertile, medium to light, well-drained soil in full sun. It will reach a height of up 1m and a spread of 1.2m.

Sedge. A dense, clump-forming, evergreen grass which has stiff, narrow arching leaves with distinctive green and white variegation. Bears brown flower spikes from April to June.
Grow in moisture retentive soil with good drainage in sun or partial shade. It will reach a height and spread of 30cm.

A dense, clump-forming grass with an upright habit which has fine dark green leaves which have yellow margins, which fade to cream. In early summer, sturdy stems form which hold the graceful arching pinkish flowerheads.
