A very early variety with extra-long slender flat pods of excellent flavour. The beans are string-less when picked young and will produce a heavy crop for several weeks over the summer if picked regularly. Brown seeded. A good source of Pro-vitamin A, Vitamin K and Folic acid. Beans are freezeable. Plant spacing 25 x 75cm. Harvest from July onwards. RHS award. Height up to 100cm.

Late 19th century) The middle ground between brassicas & salad leaves is often ignored – chards, spinaches & other similar leaves are not only delicious, but can be year-round in productivity with very little effort, plus the back bone of any productive garden, Stems of red, purple, pink, yellow & white with both green & bronzy leaves. Dazzlingly attractive in all stages of growth & chickens love it too!! Very happily takes to cut-&-come-again harvesting & hardy in all but the coldest areas. Good young in salads, or steamed.

An excellent bushy dwarf variety, ideal for the smaller garden, and good in large containers. Well suited to the exposed windy garden where larger varieties would suffer from wind rock. Produces plenty of 15cm (6″) pods each containing five small, but deliciously tender beans, which are excellent for freezing. Extremely hardy and perfect for over-wintering. It is a very old variety and is actually one of the easier varieties to grow and perfect for the novice gardener. Mid-sized fruits are grey-green in colour, sometimes stripy, sometimes not quite so pronounced. Inside the flesh is a rich orange colour and literally so juicy you may struggle to not dribble when eating! Recommended by the RHS to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects. Plant two to a growbag or one to a large pot. Fruits are ripe when they become ever so slightly yellow , the flesh around the stem becomes slightly soft and they smell strongly of melons.
