Old traditional hardy variety producing reliable, heavy yielding, strong growing, medium sized, good flavoured sprouts from early autumn into winter. Ideal for exposed locations, will over winter in snow. Removing the growing tip of the plant about a month before the harvesting increases cropping. Do not grow in the same area as where a member of the cabbage family grew in the previous year. Harvest from the ground up. Spacing, Row: 24-36 inches Spacing, Plant: 18-24 inches.

A wonderful Italian variety – ‘Black of Milan’ is named after its very, very dark green, almost black, skin. Regionally found in the Lombardian area of Italy, it is a very productive plant with an open habit that makes it ever so easy to harvest & keeps the likelihood of disease low. Medium early, slightly ribbed, about 18-20cm in length, a superb allotment variety. Restaurant quality courgette. Superb, outdoor crop. Allow 90cm between plants in a sheltered, sunny position. Harvest regularly.

In cultivation by 1633. A traditional, beautiful large bean, usually purple with mottled black but can often be lavender, yet was named for its beautiful scarlet flowers. Pick when young when both pod and bean can be eaten, or grow on for kidney beans. Runner beans are a good source of Vitamin C, folate and iron, and have a high fibre content. Try growing runner beans with sweet peas to attract pollinating insects to the flowers. Allow 22-25cm between plants. Crop from July onwards. Height 300cm.
