Teasel. A prickly biennial, poroducing a basal rosette of simple, oblong-lance-shaped, toothed, dark green leaves which are covered in spiny pustules. Oblong-ovoid, thistle-like, pinkish purple or white flowerheads with stiff, curved, prickly bracts are borne in mid and late summer. Flowerheads should be harvested for air-drying from mid- to late summer.

Grow in any moderately fertile soil, including heavy clay, in sun or partial shade. It will reach a height of 1.5-2m and a spread of 30-80cm.
