A vigorous, clump-forming perennial with upright stems and attractive pinnate leaves composed of multiple oval leaflets, giving a soft, almost tropical appearance. It forms a bold, leafy presence in the border. From July to September, slender spikes of small, pea-like lilac to pale purple flowers are produced. These are sometimes followed by decorative seed pods which last into the winter.
Grow in fertile, well-drained soil in full sun in a warm, sheltered position. It will reach a height of 120-150cm and a spread of 60-100cm.
