(Circa 1887) An exhibition variety from 1887 introduced by gardener (D. Murray) for the Marquis of Ailsa. The Onion was named after a small unusual shaped island off the coast in the firth of Clyde. – Nice-flavoured variety; large, solid, with small neck. It offers excellent keeping qualities. Try growing onions with mint to confuse and deter onion fly. Height: 45cm (18″). Spread: 10cm (4″).
