Raspberries

The raspberry is a good fruit for a quick crop with heavy yields. Start with healthy canes and a row of raspberries will give good crops for up to 12 years. From an established row of summer fruiting raspberries it is possible to expect a yield of 2-3kg per metre whereas an established row of autumn fruiting raspberries can produce a yield of 0.6kg per metre.

Raspberries have a perennial root system which has a suckering habit, on summer fruiting cultivars they produce canes each year which will bear fruit on them the following year. Autumn fruiting cultivars grow canes with bear fruit the same year.

Raspberries need to be grown in a site which is protected from strong winds, which can break fruiting laterals. Raspberries are best grown in a sunny site although they will grow in partial shade as long as the soil doesn’t dry out. Raspberries like slightly acidic soil (pH 6.5-6.7), which is well-drained, but doesn’t dry out too quickly in the summer or that becomes waterlogged.

Raspberries are available in pre-packed bundles of 10 from late-October to March.

Autumn Fruiting. A truly exceptional variety. Without a doubt, one of the best and most reliable autumn-fruiting raspberries. It is a heavy cropper from late August until the first frosts, with the highest yields coming in September. The attractive berries are large with a firm texture, and the flavour is excellent. The fruit is medium-dark red in colour and has good keeping qualities. The short, erect, spiny canes are sturdy and need only minimal support. It has good disease resistance to Root Rot.

  • Raspberry 'Polka' Out of Stock

Autumn Fruiting. A top-performing raspberry bred in Poland and prized for its reliably high-quality harvests. It has large, firm, conical berries with a medium-red colour and a deliciously sweet, aromatic flavour—plus an impressive shelf life, so you can enjoy your crop for longer. Polka ripens around ten days earlier than ‘Autumn Bliss’ and keeps producing fruit right up to the first frosts, making it a heavy cropper for the UK season. It’s a primocane variety, so you’ll get your main harvest on new canes from August through October, and a bonus, lighter crop the following June if you leave the old canes. The canes themselves are vigorous, virtually spine-free (so no nasty scratches when picking), and have good resistance to common raspberry diseases.
