Bahian Sauce (Piri Piri) Chilli Seeds are small glossy red fruits about 5cm in length and despite their size, they pack a punch, with a Scoville rating between 60,000 to 100,000. They originate from the state of Bahia in northwestern Brazil.

A highly ornamental variety, the bright green leaves are often striped or speckled cream in colour – and pure cream-coloured leaves are also common. The tapered start of light green with darker stripes and mature to striped orange and finally striped red. The fruits can be used at any colour stage. With a lovely sweet flavour it is the heat that can be unpredictable – and in many ways they are just like the Padron Pepper with some fruits having very little heat whilst others (on the same plant) being quite fierce. Its a more than sensible idea to test each one as you add it to your cooking! Plants grows to about 2 foot and has a fairly compact habit.

Cool Chilli. Traditionally used in mole sauce but also very adaptable for all kinds of delicious culinary dishes; they dry very well so can be used out of season too. The fruits start off green (and can be eaten at this point), turn red and finally ripen to a deep brown. They have a mild nutty, tangy flavour to them. It is not unusual for the fruits to reach 20 cm (8″) long and 3 cm (1″) wide. Plants usually reach approximately 90 cm (3 feet) tall.

£2.50The variety traditionally used in Spanish tapas. They are used whilst green & immature and are very mild, however, 1 in 10 may be hot – a game of chilli roulette! The chilli plants can reach 1-1.2m tall and will continue to produce peppers so long as the pods are regularly picked. Spanish Tapas recipes usually roast them in olive oil and sprinkle with salt but they are excellent fresh/for stir-fries or stuffing. Make great pickled chillies too.

£2.50A robust-growing variety that produces large, smooth, green fruits which ripen to an intense bright red. Very reliable and well suited to the UK’s short growing season. This is a good all-round chilli that can be eaten green or left to mature to red; excellent for eating raw, incorporating into salsas, using in soups and stews, or stuffing with cheese and roasting. Fruits measure an average of 2-3″ (5-7.5 cm) in length and 1″ (2.5 cm) in diameter. The plant has a compact and bushy habit, growing 2-3 feet (60-90 cm) tall with a spread of 1-1 feet (30-45 cm).
