£3.00In cultivation by 1633. A traditional, beautiful large bean, usually purple with mottled black but can often be lavender, yet was named for its beautiful scarlet flowers. Pick when young when both pod and bean can be eaten, or grow on for kidney beans. Runner beans are a good source of Vitamin C, folate and iron, and have a high fibre content. Try growing runner beans with sweet peas to attract pollinating insects to the flowers. Allow 22-25cm between plants. Crop from July onwards. Height 300cm.
