A compact, deciduous, perennial climber which has pinnate, dark green leaves. From July to September,  large, double, mauve to reddish-purple flowers, often with green central petals when the flowers first open are borne. Group 2.

Grow in fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil in sun, with the roots and base of the plant in shade. It will reach a height of 2m and a spread of 1.5m.
