A compact, deciduous,  large-flowered, perennial climber which has glossy, dark-green leaves. Single, deep violet flowers with scarlet central bands and red anthers are borne from late spring to early summer, often followed by a second show in late summer. Flowering Group 2.

Grow in fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil in sun, with the roots and base of the plant in shade. It will reach a height of 2.5m and a spread of 1m.
