Garlic Chives
Allium tuberosum. A bulbous perennial which forms a clump of erect , flattened, strappy leaves. From July to August rounded umbels of white bell-shaped flowers are borne. Chives are grown to harvest the edible leaves, which enhance the flavour of many savoury dishes, this variety has a pleasantly garlicky taste. The flowers are also edible, pick just after they open and sprinkle on salads for a pretty and spicy garnish.
Grow in full sun. It will reach a height of 35cm and a spread of 20cm.
