Gladiolus murielae
Peacock Orchid. Abyssinian Gladiolus. A upright, narrowly columnar, cormous perennial which has fans of erect, sword-shaped, dark grey-green leaves. From August to October highly fragrant white flowers, each with a prominent burgundy blotch at the base of their petals are borne.
Grow in fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. Lift when foliage dies back, discard old corms and store new corms in a dry, frost-free place to re-plant in spring. In milder areas, a thick, dry winter mulch may be enough. It will reach a height of 1m and a spread of 40cm.
