A bulbous perennial which has narrow, upright, sword-shaped, grey-green leaves. In March and April, small and graceful flowers are borne with deep purple standards (the upright petals) and falls (the lower petals) that have a slightly darker hue. Its compact size and rich purple blooms make it perfect for edging borders, adding interest to rock gardens, or planting in small groups in borders or containers for a vivid spring display.
Grow in well drained, neutral or slightly alkaline soil in full sun. It will reach a height of 20-30cm and a spread of 10-15cm.
