Chinese Mahonia. An upright, evergreen with shrub with long, arching, pinnate leaves divided into ovate, toothed, dark blue-green leaflets, white beneath and flushed reddish-purple in winter. Slender, lax racemes of cupped, purple-red flowers with creamy-yellow centres are borne from August to October which are followed by blue-black fruit.
Grow in moderately fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil in full or partial shade. They will tolerate a sunny position if the soil isn’t too dry. It will reach a height of up to 1.5m and a spread of 2m.
