An unusual but worthy addition to the garden on account of its exceptionally large and dark purple-black fruit. Masses of pink flowers are borne in spring which contrast well against the bronze-coloured new leaves. In late summer the dark fruits ripen, developing to the size of small apples. The very dark flesh makes delicious jams, jellies and is also very good for juicing, keeping its dark colour. It is thought this variety was originally developed for cider, but the juice can be drunk on its own or blended with other varieties. Deciduous.
