A more erect tree than S. aria with creamy-white foliage in spring turning silver-grey, white underneath, then russet and gold in autumn. White flowers are borne in spring which are followed by orange-red berries which appear in autumn. Deciduous.

Grow in moderately fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil in full sun or light shade. It will thrive in acid or alkaline soil. It will reach a height of 10m and a spread of 8m.
