Purple Coneflower. Slowly expanding crowns which carry roughly hairy, toothed leaves to 15cm. The basal leaves are egg-shaped. From July to October rigid stems carry flowerheads which are up to 12cm across. The ray florets are reddish-purple with an orange-brown cone.
Grow in deep, humus-rich, well-drained soil in full sun. It will reach a height of 60cm and a spread of 45cm.
Purple Sage. An erect, hairy, evergreen perennial which has oblong-ovate, entire, red-purple, woolly, aromatic leaves. From midsummer to early autumn lilac-blue flowers are borne.
Grow in light, moderately fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil in full sun or light dappled shade. It will reach a height of up to 80cm and a spread of 1m.
