Swamp Milkweed. A stout, densely branched perennial which has long, thin, willow-like leaves to 15cm long, densely placed around the stems in opposite pairs. In autumn the leaves turn gold. Clusters of vanilla scented, deep rose-purple blooms are borne from July to September which are loved by butterflies.

Grows best in fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. A late riser in spring, it is hardy even during the worst of winters. It will reach a height of 1-1.2m.
