Mediterranean Medlar. A small tree or large shrub with a rounded, spreading habit. The dark green, glossy leaves are deeply lobed with a slightly serrated edge  and turn subtle shades of yellow in the autumn. In May, small, white flowers with purple anthers arranged in dense clusters are borne which are followed followed by large, apple-like fruits that are typically yellow or orange-red in colour. The fruits, known as azaroles, are edible and can be used in jams, jellies, or eaten fresh, offering both ornamental and practical value. Deciduous.
Grows in all soil as long as it’s not waterlogged, in sun or partial shade. It will reach a height of 4-6m and a spread of 3-5m.
