Angelica archangelica. Angelica is in fact a member of the carrot family, and an ancient and versatile herb. Recommended by the RHS to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects. Angelica has many culinary and medicinal uses, the stems have traditionally been candied for decoration of confectionary, and can even be used to flavour gin! It will self-seed everywhere if allowed to flower so either cut the flowers off before they set or ‘bag’ the flower heads. Plant 60-90cm apart. It will reach a height of 0.9-2.4m.

A purple leaved Basil which is quick to crop and is harvestable later into autumn than most varieties. It makes an excellent ornamental edible adding a bright splash of colour to the herb garden, and is ideal grown on the windowsill, or in containers or baskets outdoors in the summer. It will reach a height of 45cm and a spread of 30cm.
Mentha x piperita. This mint has purple-brown leaves. From August to October pretty pink flowers are borne. It is especially good for making tea as it is said to be stronger than the white variety, but also makes a good addition to salads or for flavouring sweets or ice cream. Vigorous growth. Recommended for pot growing due to self seeding.

Petroselinum crispum. Also known as French Parsley. A large flat leaved type which is a finer plant than the curled types which generally has a sweet more delicate flavour than curled parsley making it ideal for more general cooking use. The plants are vigorous with distinct flat leaves. Ideal for growing in the vegetable patch, containers or the kitchen windowsill.
Grow in a sunny position. It will reach a height of 80cm and spread of 60cm.
