Mentha x gracilis. Also known as Slender, Scotch, Red, Austrian, Red stemmed, Golden apple, Little-leaved or Vietnamese Mint. This mint has almost tiger striped leaves with orange stripes running down the green leaves which have an apple/ginger scent. From August to October small lilac flowers are borne on red stems. It can be used for making tea, but also makes a good addition to salads and homemade lemonade. Particularly good accompaniment to melon and tomatoes. Good for mint sauce. Vigorous growth. Recommended for pot growing due to self seeding.
Grow in a sunny position. It will reach a height of 30-60cm.

Satureja hortensis. With slender bronze green leaves and lilac tubular flowers, this hardy annual makes an attractive addition to the herb garden. It lends an aromatic peppery tang to soups and seafoods and grown next to broad beans it is reputed to help repel black fly.
Grow in a sunny position. It will reach a height of 45cm and a spread of 30cm.

Hyssopus officinalis. A hardy, semi evergreen, perennial herb with slim dark green foliage which has beautiful royal blue flowers that will attract plenty of bees from midsummer to autumn. Plant seedlings out during the summer 60cm apart. Benefits from being cut back hard in spring or summer as otherwise can become woody. It will reach a height and spread of 60cm.

A beautiful hardy annual herb with rough leaves covered in silvery hairs and the most attractive celestial blue flowers. Nectar rich borage flowers are particularly attractive to pollinating insects, including bees which make distinctive flavoured borage honey. This versatile upright herb has a multitude of uses – add the cucumber flavoured leaves to summer drinks and salads, grow it as a companion plant close to other crops to attract pollinating insects, and at the end of the season plants make a useful bulky addition to the compost. It will reach a height 60cm and a spread of 45cm.
