A clump-forming, evergreen perennial with broad, arching, strap-shaped, glossy, dark green leaves and sturdy, erect stems bearing large, rounded heads of trumpet-shaped, white flowers in summer.
Grow in moist, fertile, but free draining soil in full sun. It will reach a height of 1m and a spread of 60cm.
Purple Coneflower. Slowly expanding crowns which carry roughly hairy, toothed leaves to 15cm. The basal leaves are egg-shaped. From July to October rigid stems carry flowerheads which are up to 12cm across. The ray florets are reddish-purple with an orange-brown cone.
Grow in deep, humus-rich, well-drained soil in full sun. It will reach a height of 60cm and a spread of 45cm.
Japanese Anemone. A vigorous, erect, woody-based perennial which has spreading, suckering shoots, and oval, palmate, mid-green leaves. Bears white, quill-shaped flowers from July to September.
Grow in moist, fertile, humus-rich soil in sun or partial shade. They won’t tolerate excessive winter wet. It will reach a height of 60-90cm and will spread indefinitely.
